[Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn correspondence, 1805-1851].

Business and personal letters of Brigadier General, Custom House Collector, Congressman, and author. Contains a couple of letters from family members and individuals seeking Dearborn's assistance with pension claims. D.L. Child describes the Russian provinces on the Black Sea; John Wilson describes the natural resources of Western Pennsylvania especially white pine timber; Thomas Ludlow Ogden writes about a council with Indians; George H. Crossman describes a victory at Buenavista; and Augustus Mitchel writes about the revolution in France. Other correspondents include William Stackpole, George Guelphs Barrell, George Sullivan, Thomas Whittemore, and Alfred Brewster Ely. Also includes "Extract from Dr. Daniel C. Sanders' Election sermon", October 1798 and a power of attorney by Ruth Downing of Salem, 1814.

George Guelphs Barrell was born on November 24, 1780, and lived in Massachusetts. Little is known of his professional career, but he traveled to Spain in 1806 and, in 1817, James Monroe appointed him United States consul to Malaga, Spain.
